How absolutely stunning! Those images from the glacier are particularly striking, although each photo in your travel journal really conveys the atmosphere of Ecuador... Thanks for sharing them with us :)

Aren't the chaps the best?! My dad got handed a leopard print pair, and I died a little. And I think Ecuador is probably a good introduction to South America - it's a quick flight, they use USD, and you can see a ton of different landscapes in a small geographical area.

It sounds like such an amazing trip overall. I've never been to South America but it's definitely on my list. Sounds like a lot of physical activity crammed into a short space of time - no wonder you were knackered! (PS: love those chaps!)

I have pretty similar memories of Quilotoa and Cotopaxi. I've never felt so short of breath as I did climbing in Ecuador, but the landscapes everywhere I've been in the Andes are so worth it!

Your travelogue and photos are wonderful and so appreciated. It brings back memories of a trip in 1989 and I so well remember Cotopaxi from a great distance -- it seemed to hover in the distance for ever and ever. The mountains are breathtaking and the people colorful. Thanks for your descriptive remembrances -- I so enjoy them!

You've written multiple great blogs all in one post! These are some of my favorite places here. I have yet to hike down to the crater at Quilatoa and will take your advice to heart... we're planning a backtrip in the future so it will be interesting. But if you were suffering from the altitude, it can make it so much worse. I had that hiking the Inca Trail on our longest day. It's horrific. I love the views of the mountains at Cotopaxi. Last time we went, the trail to the shelter was fogged in unbelievably and since we live here, we decided to try on a different day. Your photos make me want to return as soon as possible!

It looks like you had an amazing time in Ecuador these are gorgeous photos. Thanks for sharing your trip, it brought back many lovely memories for me. I had forgotten that we visited Quilotoa (it was 7 years ago) - so beautiful.

Don't beat yourself up about the altitude. It is literally killer for some & affects everyone differently & randomly. I have know athletes suffer worse than obese couch potatoes.
