Hi Brendon – the first three years of pictures on this blog were all taken with a fixed-lens camera similar to yours – I only upgraded to a real DSLR this past spring. I love shooting with natural light, but my apartment is pretty dark and I rarely get the chance. I use an Ego-Lowel light soft box for most of my pictures – it’s a pretty inexpensive and small light, but provides enough daylight balanced light for a few square feet, certainly enough for most of my set-ups. I’ve had it for two years and love it!

Actually there’s one that I’d like to ask. I always have a bit of trouble with lighting, especially if I’m shooting at night and indoors. Do you prefer natural or artificial lighting for your photos? And if I shoot using artificial, what would be the best settings to select on a camera? I use a sony digital still camera (the ones that look like DSLR’s but the lens can’t be changed).
