The tartines look wonderful! I know just how you feel about moving! A few months ago we moved 3,000 miles away from everyone we know, including our son. It has been an adjustment and I just let myself feel what I was going to feel. We love our new home and it’s a blessing to know that happiness in a new area with new people CAN blend with the sadness of leaving your comfort zone behind. Hi Katie! I just ran across your blog and loved the name. My grandfather used to sing that song to me too! Now I sing it to my 2 kids (I’ve changed the names of course….La, la, la louisa, beautiful ouisa..) you get the picture. Anyway, lovely blog, lovely photos and best of luck with all your changes.

I used to live around the corner from the Thai Hut, so it sounds like you are heading to my old neighborhood. You must must must eat at the Kebab Factory, 414 Washington. My husband and I just made a big move too. Change is scary. I’ve been telling myself that although change is scary, at this point in my life, the idea of NOT changing is scarier. Good luck with everything!

Oh, and the tartines look delicious! I’m obsessed with fresh corn right now.

These tartines look completely delicious Katie… a wonderful accompaniment to a thoughtful, reflective post. I love the quote you opened with; it’s one of my favourites too. There is so much truth in the ‘melancholy’ statement. Each stage of life brings a level of complexity that can’t be summed up in a single emotion. I’ve often felt excitement, sadness, loss and enrichment all in the same breath. I hope that the last stages of moving go smoothly. I am sure that you’ll feel an equal sense of ‘home’ when you and Trevor finally settle; for me, ‘home’ is now where Aaron (my husband) is. Nothing else matters… any place becomes warm and safe when he’s there (soppy but true!). I’m so excited for you guys. I’ll be thinking of you lovely! xx
