Yum! I made this to take for lunches this week and we loved every spoonful. Funny how a bowl of soup fills you up - even if it's chock full of healthy. =) It's mad easy to make but tastes like a million bucks. Thanks for sharing this! (And I can so relate to your misery of the bad kitchen days ...)

I definitely agree about the learning curve. I think there's so much more to making bread than the starter or good yeast... it's the whole kneading and rising process that I need to get the hang of! And my darn house has hot and cold spots... the temp drops significantly at night so I have a feeling that it's sabotaging my bread efforts. Glad that Trevor's bread is coming out well, even if he's still not happy with it. Your fruit and nut bread sounds divine. Hope you have better cooking experiences for the rest of the weekend (I'm baking bread today so wish me luck!) x

I recently threw out a mini hand chopper because I was so frustrated with it - sometimes doing things by hand is the most reliable! The bread is edible and makes good toast, but it's a little dense and chewy. It's got like 3 cups of dried fruit and seeds in it, so I think it would taste decent regardless of how the bread dough came out. I think bread has a steep learning curve! Trevor has been making a batch of sourdough every week for the last few months and he's still not happy with it (although I think it's delicious). I hope your next batch comes out well!!

Haha yes, it is the one you gave me. I had no idea they had so many parts! Oh well. And yes, as soon as I have the counter space for it, I'm for sure getting a Kitchen Aid. Either that or I'll just end up with really strong arms. Love you!

Those types of kitchen days can certainly be frustrating! I purchased a mandolin two years ago and I've used it ONCE. You're right...it took me a good hour to figure out how to put it all together and make it work properly. I even labeled all the parts so I would know what to do next time. Unfortunately, every time I look at it now I think, "ugh"..no thanks, I'll just slice everything thinly by hand. Ha!

Aw you poor thing! What a horribly frustrating night! Glad that the soup still turned out wonderful (despite the exploding blender; that's happened to me plenty of times and it is so freaking upsetting. The last time it happened I threw the blender out!). How did the bread turn out? Bread seems to always defeat me. I've almost given up... working on a third batch of sourdough starter at the moment and praying that it will redeem my previous efforts! Love your photographs, words and the recipe. As per usual, you've created something beautiful on here in spite of it all xx
