I came across this post today and had to stop and say that I totally agree with you that this is the best cookbook ever! My husband gave it to me 5 years ago and it stays on the coffee table where it gets study constantly. :) I’ve had the rice dish (YUM!) but haven’t tried the green beans.

I just got this one and I think your review (which I was thinking of when first flipping through it) is very accurate. I expect I’ll use it a lot in the coming years. I’m just not exactly sure how to get started with it.

That book sounds fantastic! I have always wanted to learn Peruvian cooking and maybe recreate some of the things from my time in Chile. If you learn to make pastel de choclo or a good cazuela let me know (bonus points if you can find the proper wine to put in a “terremoto”).

Hi Tina – I actually made those jars myself, using chalkboard paint on glass storage and canning jars. It was definitely a fun project, and I love the way they look now. Thanks for stopping by!

There’s nothing I love more than an exhaustive cookbook. And I love love love Latin-American food! Glad to hear so many cuisines are represented in this one! Until I traveled extensively through South America earlier this year, I had no idea how diverse the food was across the continent (which is silly really—it’s a whole continent!). Thanks for your review. I have a feeling I’ll be asking for this for Christmas.

Every time you introduce a new cookbook on your site, my list of cookbooks that I want gets a tad bit longer. Funny how that happens :) The pictures are amazing (as usual) and the green beans with bacon, absolutely mouth watering…but I am a green bean fanatic! They would be a great addition to any Thanksgiving table.

I know what you mean about struggling with a cook book I have a Jamie one I just can’t get into. I like your idea of just opening up a page and reading from there..might give it a try.
