Well, this sounds like a good cure for grouchiness. What a great birthday present! I have the book from the library right now and truth be told I’ll probably end up buying it. (I have Tender as a Christmas gift, and it needs its companion piece, right? Also, fruit is always more exciting than vegetables).

I just baked this with a friend, and it turned out absolutely fantastic! We had it with some vanilla ice cream while it was warm out of the oven, and then again late in the evening after a night out, with some ice cream that had melted in the fridge (rather than the freezer of course). Both times it blew our socks off, so cheers to that! Great post!

I totally know what you mean about judging people when you’re having a bad day – I do it too. Also, I have got to try baking with polenta – I love polenta in other forms and I can imagine how good it would be in cake.

I just made a posted a rhubarb cake, too – but mine didn’t have polenta in it. I bet it’s a delicious way to get more texture in this cake. Looks yummy!
