Fresh lemons, both the juice and a little bit of the zest, plus a bit of extra salt would probably replicate the flavor of preserved lemons nicely! It would also still be delicious without the lemon, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Girl in the Kitchen is a book I haven’t had a chance to look through yet, but you’ve got it on my radar now. That almond butter crisp sounds wonderful and is definitely a pasta topping I wouldn’t have thought of on my own.
