There! If you have made this, you can now begin to believe that you can probably cook most of the other Indian dishes. A Bengali makes this dish a tad differently and calls it "dhokar dalna". The pictures are drool-worthy and the dish sure looks tempting. I am sure it tasted as good. I'm a Bengali and I eat this once in year. Yes, that's how sparsely I make it.

Your curry looks so delicious! I can't believe you chose to make these. They're very traditional and not a common dish. The name means something like pendant or diamond stew :) My mom makes them on special occasions for my dad. I'm going to try to make them tomorrow now that I've seen this!

Katie, I saw this on tastespotting (?) and I've now made it twice in two weeks- a new family (and office potluck) favorite! This recipe is DELICIOUS! Thank you so much for sharing. I tweaked it to make it vegan (soy yogurt) and a bit heartier with some peas and vegetarian chick'n chunks in the masala. The chickpea patties are delicious lightly pan-fried, too! Thanks for expanding my dinner menu!

Katie, I'm Indian and even I have a tough time putting recipes together. It can be intimidating but I've learnt the process is always worth it in the end. My go-to is Madhur Jaffrey. I love her books/recipes and have made several of her recipes without much stress. Give her a try!

I love this chickpeas dumpling's but it surprises me that you made it;) in the sense that even being an Indian I get lazy to make it and how awesome of you to make it and buy all the spices.:) looks great.

Just found your blog thanks to FoodGawker! This sounds great... the idea of getting all those spices sounds intimidating to me, though! There are so many recipes I want to try that I haven't because spices seem a little too expensive to invest in at the moment... but I guess I should just buckle down and do it. :)
